Oropharyngeal Airway
An oropharyngeal airway (OPA), or Guedel airway, is a medical device that prevents an unconscious patient's tongue from obstructing their airway by keeping it away from the back of the throat. It is a curved plastic tube with a flange that sits outside the mouth while the tube extends into the oropharynx. OPAs are used in airway management to maintain or open an airway in unconscious patients who do not have a gag reflex, and they can be a vital tool in emergency situations.
